Installing a portable is a cinch and
can be done in about an hour. We have two videos of Legacy Pools
being installed and while these are company specific all portable pools
are basically the same with minor variations. By looking at the video
clips below you can see how to setup a portable pool.
Oval Pools setup the same way as
Rectangle Portable Pools. The Videos are made by the manufacturer and so
the narration is in Korean, but as they say, a picture is worth a
thousand words.
Step 1: Don't Worry!
These pools assemble like a dream, you
just have to keep a couple of things in mind. The most crucial portion
of setting up a portable pool is in the ground preparation.
The Ground Must Be:
-
Level
-
Compacted
-
Free Of Rocks and Debris
-
No Sand
Pools Must be Level! The
Pools are engineered to hold water vertically . When the pool is on a
slant some of the weight shifts to horizontal pressure, which the pool
is not designed to hold

Installed On Level Ground The Pools
Weight Is Supported Correctly |
Pools Installed On a
Slant (this one is exaggerated, even a couple of inches
can cause problems) and the gravitational forces work
horizontally, a way the pool was not designed. |
The Pool
Legs that were designed to hold 10,000 Pounds are now
holding up 150,000 pounds and they buckle. |
|
The main weight of
the portable pool is supported by the pool bottom and the uprights. The
pool bottom spreads it's load over a broad area so soil compaction there
is not a large issue. But where the legs press on the soil , that is a
different story. A heavy weight is pressing on the narrow profile
of the leg and if your soil is not compacted sufficiently the legs will
sink into the soil causing stress on the liner and misshaping the pool.
This pool was installed with great care, but sand was used and even with
the use of support blocks the ground shifted and the problem arose.
So how do you know your ground is
compact? Hit it with a hammer and if you dig a hole it is not
compact enough.

|
Pool Installed Correctly. Legs and
Pool Bottom Even |
Pool has compressed the dirt and sank
below the level of the legs. The Legs being supported
stayed high. This causes the frame to hold up the
pool and hold more weight. This adds stress and can
cause failure at:
Solution: Lower legs to match
pool. |
The legs
have sunk here and this will skew the pool and cause
pressure on the legs liner and stirrups. This
adds stress and can cause failure at:
Solution: Raise legs to match pool |
|
What to do if your ground is not
compact?
-
Full soak the area of ground where
the pool will be installed out to 4 feet beyond the pool size. And
allow ground to dry 4 days and repeat if possible.
-
Counter sink cement blocks so that
the top of the brick is even with the ground level.
-
After your pool is assembled and as
you are filling it with water, observe it and see if there is any
ground shifting. If you see a problem, stop filling immediately. and
correct the problem

| This gentleman did some excellent
prep work before He got his pool and was well on his way to
having a deck ready to go by the time he got the pool |
But he built the enclosure
exactly two inches to small and the legs could not fully extend
and he had to redo a portion |
